Pavel Steffal

He studied the guitar at the Conservatory Plzeň, in Lubomír Brabec’s class and completed his studies with professor J. Holá and J. Kormunda in 1979. Besides the guitar he developed himself to other musical genres during his studies. Along with Karel Peterka, song author, he has been awarded the Porta Prize twice, he has performed on Czech Televison and has made a lot of radio recordings. In 1983 he extended his cooperation in a guitar dou with Dr. Petr Bauer which had actually started during their studies at the Conservatory in Plzeň 1977. During this period of classical music concerts both guitar players worked on music programmes from their workshop. In 1997 he released a CD of baroque guitar duet recordings along with Petr Fiala, after which the album Guitar Jewels followed, where he performed together with Markéta Brůhová and Pavel Steffal Jr.. Presently he is headmaster of the Artist School and teacher at the Conservatory in České Budějovice.

Emanuel Kümmel

From the age of eight he was Pavel Steffal’s pupil, at first at the Artist School and later at the Conservatory in České Budějovice. In 2001 he graduated from HAMU (Music Academy) in Prague, where his teacher was professor Milan Zelenka. At the age of twelve he came second at the International Guitar Contest in Kutná Hora and four years later he was a finalist there. During his studies at HAMU he cooperated in a guitar duo with Petr Fiala, with whom he arranged several recordings mostly for the Czech Radio. He works as a teacher at the Conservatory in České Budějovice.
